I am so happy every time then my card is featured on Challenge blogs. I believe that it makes everyone happy then they see their cards but I'd like to explain why it makes me so proud of myself.
I have Charcote Marie Tooth disease (CMT). It is an inherited neurological disease characterized by a slowly progressive degeneration of the muscles in the foot, lower leg, hand, and forearm, and a mild loss of sensation in the limbs, fingers, and toes (http://www.genome.gov/11009201)
I walk awkwardly. I can't run, jump, rise to toes and heels or squat. My brain will give the order but muscles are too week to carry it on. But depict of that I am very happy that at least I can walk.
My legs don't take any roll of making cards :) But my hand... They are very week. I can't wave. If I lift my arm, I can't keep the hand a parallel with an arm. I don't have muschles to keep it that way.  Can't stretch my fingers. They are in loose fist all the time. Except the thumb, it won't too anything. It sound so awful (I'm not talking about my English :o)) but, really, it isn't. I am used to it. I don't know any other way.
My must have helpers are tweezers. I can't make anything without them. I need them to place the papers and embellishments, to peel of the backing from the double-sided adhesive. I need them on every step of making the card.
Then I saw a Fiskars acrylic plate with foam on the corners, I knew I want it for myself. Stamping is hard for me 'cause I can't hold and place the stamp without dropping it. I had to make several attempts before the image came out satisfied. This Fiskar tool is very expensive and the shipping cost is the same as the tool it self :( So I clued strip of sponges onto my largest acrylic block and I have fantastic helper now :o) I am stubborn, if I want something, I'll work until I can find a way to make it happen.
In the hands of three years old is more strength then mines. To apply the liquid clue, I need to use both hands to squeeze it. One hand is too week for that. Coloring with pencils is very exhausting and to get a darker shade out of the pencil is impossible. My hand is too week for that. One day I'll try out the Copics, Promarkers or something similar. I haven't dared to bye them yet 'cause I heard that they need some strength to blend them. It would make me very sad to pay a lot of money for them just to find out that I can't use them. In mean while I just can dream that one day I'll buy them and they turned up to my 'tweesers' :o) (Edit: I bought them. I love them. Promarkers are my tweesers)
I do regret that I can't make bows. They are so pretty but I need one more hand to tie a bow :o) (Edit: My awesome neighbour made me a Bow Maker out of wood. I can make bows now. Woohoo!)
Please forgive me if everything is not so perfect on my cards. Some layers are not always aligned as well as they should. But I'll put my heart on every single card and enjoy it :o)
If you don't have nothing do to, put on your mittens and make a card :o) This will give you a slight  idea, how it is for me. It's not easy, but don't be too hard on your self. I have had years of practice.
Please, don't you even think to feel sad of me. I have lived with this illness so long time. I have learned to cope with it. Life is a challenge and every little win makes it wonderful :o)

I wanted to share my story with you so you would understand how happy it makes me then my card is noticed :o)
Thank you all for your support and nice comments about my cards!

  1. Hi Eret
I have just read your story again as you give me such inspiration. I have been moaning about my swollen index finger which I think is arthritis and then I thought of you and remembered reading your story and the beautiful cards you do. I will stop moaning and keep going lol

  2. ((hugs)) to Eret! Thank you for sharing your story so openly, and explaining why each card is a celebration for you. I am glad you are "stubborn" (as you said) and that you keep on trying. I do the same thing, even if it is just a little at a time, I keep on plugging along to finish a card. I am so proud to know you, Eret, and only disappointed that I did not read this tab before. Thank you for being an inspiration to all of us!
    hugs,

  3. Eret, your story is SO very inspiring! I've always thought your cards and projects are amazing and so very beautiful. No one would even think you have issues with your hands. Thanks for sharing your story. You are an inspiration to everyone - not only for your story behind your cards, but for the beautiful projects as well (and thanks to Donna for letting me know your story was here)!

  4. Kudos to you Eret....you are a true inspiration to all who see your work and read your story. One cannot even imagine what it would be like to live in your shoes. But as you say, you have learned to cope. I have seen many others (not firsthand) who have learned to do what seemed to be the impossible and I must say that you are right there. Your cards are truly beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing!
